Texas State Seal
The symbols of Texas, the state seal and flag, were adopted in 1839. The single star, which appears on both the seal and the flag, gives Texas its nickname - the Lone Star State. On the seal, the branch of live oak at the left of the star represents strength and the olive branch at the right of the star symbolized peace. On the flag, the vertical blue bar stands for loyalty, the white horizontal bar represents strength and the red horizontal bar represents bravery.
