Russia national team head coach Valery Karpin has addressed potential disciplinary measures for football players who arrive at training under the influence of alcohol.
“If a player comes to training drunk, they will be fined. Will they be fired? No. They have a five-year contract, and €100 million was paid for them.
— So what warrants severe punishment? For instance, if they start a brawl at a place like ‘Coffeemania’ — would that be grounds to part ways?
— No, the person has a contract, and €100 million was paid for them,” Karpin said in an interview on Nadezhda Strelets’ YouTube channel.
Karpin has been in charge of the Russian men’s national team since the summer of 2021. During this period, he has also managed FC Rostov and Dynamo Moscow.
